March, 2008 - Criminology Department Chair Bill Laufer named the Julian Aresty Endowed Professor at Wharton.

November, 2007 - Penn Criminology Ranked #1 - The "Chronicle of Higher Education" has ranked Penn Criminology first among criminal justice and criminology departments
nationally in its 2007 faculty scholarly productivity index. Results were reported in the Chronicle's November 16, 2007 issue. The index examines percentage of faculty with books and journal publications, citations per faculty, percentages of faculty getting new grants, etc.
Ranking behind Penn were Maryland (#2), NYU (#3), UC Berkeley (#4), and University of Florida (#5).
September, 2007 - Susan Sorenson, Professor of Social Policy and Criminology, is elected as a fellow of the American Psychological Association and also of the Society
for the Psychological Study of Social Issues. Click here for her faculty profile.
July 1, 2007 - William Laufer formally confirmed as the Department's second Chair |

Dr. Laufer succeeds Lawrence W. Sherman, who was named earlier this year the Wolfson Professor of Criminology at the University of Cambridge in England. Dr. Sherman remains Director of the Jerry Lee Center of Criminology and a Professor of Criminology and Sociology at Penn.

June 5, 2007- Sweden's Queen Silvia presents the Stockholm Prize in Criminology
The Stockholm Prize in Criminology, funded in part by the Jerry Lee Center of Criminology, is awarded for outstanding achievements in criminological research or for the application of research results by practitioners for the reduction of crime and the advancement of human rights. The second annual prize was awarded in Stockholm's City Hall to Alfred Blumstein and Terrie E Moffitt for their discoveries about the development of criminal behavior over the life-course of individuals.
