Dr. Ahmed, a neo-classical criminologist has seen both academic as well as professional facets of his specialization in international terrorism. His dissertation, a logit analysis of the terrorist 'rationality' encompassing almost three decades of international terrorist incidents focussed on terrorist tactics, targets, risks, success, failure, learning and counter terrorism strategies. He successfully led counter terrorism operations in what are now known as hot-beds of terrorism. He saw combat in nations that are laced with weapons of mass destruction and steeped in religious radicalism. At another level, he has served in the hierarchy of Judge Advocate General, Adjutant General and Provost Marshal's branches of the military. He brings this to the classroom in analyzing international terrorism, offering criminolicogical explanations and strategies to fight the global war on terror and along with his multicultural background, linguistic and quantitative skills, he invites his Penn students to engage in research and analysis of the latest issues of international importance, urging them to apply criminological theory to resolve them.
