Doris Layton MacKenzie is professor, Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice, University of Maryland. Dr. MacKenzie received her Ph.D. in Psychology from Penn State University. She was on the faculty at the Louisiana State University and was a visiting scholar at the National Institute of Justice prior to coming to the University of Maryland. Dr. MacKenzie's areas of expertise are offender behavior, evaluating correctional programs, correctional research, and correctional boot camps. She has recently completed a book on "What Works in Corrections: Reducing the Recidivism of Offenders and Delinquents" to be published by Cambridge Press and an edited volume on "Different Crimes, Different Criminals" to be published by Lexis-Nexis/Anderson Press. She had just completed a randomized trial examining the effectiveness of the Maryland adult correctional boot camp. She has coauthored Campbell Collaboration systematic reviews on the effectiveness of prison-based drug treatment, drug courts and correctional boot camps.
